About

The GEAR Research Group (Global Energy and Environmental Economics Analysis Research Group) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha focuses its scientific and knowledge transfer activities on studying the impacts of economic activity on sustainability. Specifically, the group specializes in calculating social, economic, and environmental footprints at regional, national, and international levels through the use and development of multiregional input-output (MRIO) models in their various extensions and adaptations.

Currently, the group consists of 10 full-time members from the Faculty of Economics and Business in Albacete and the Department of Economic Analysis and Finance at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. The team includes 4 Full Professors, 4 Associate Professors, and 2 Assistant Professors. Additionally, the group is supervising 3 doctoral theses and collaborates directly with researchers from other UCLM departments and national universities.

Since July 16, 2025, GEAR has also been a member of the Renewable Energy Research Institute at UCLM, contributing its expertise in energy and environmental economics.

GEAR’s dynamic work approach has enabled it to participate in numerous competitive projects at the European, national, and regional levels. The results of many of these projects have been published in high-impact scientific journals such as Energy EconomicsNature CommunicationsEnergy PolicyEconomic Systems Research, and Environmental Science & Technology, among others. The group has also successfully transferred its accumulated knowledge to society through outreach publications and, most notably, through numerous contracts with companies and public institutions.
