REMARE-EMI, is a teaching innovation project that aims to contribute to create the necessary conditions to promote the implementation of bilingual degrees at UCLM, through EMI (English-Medium Instruction). The main product of this project is the multimodal repository of interdisciplinary and transversal materials in English that appears on this website. Its purpose is to provide resources for teachers in three dimensions: 1) Disciplinary materials and resources in English referring to different areas of knowledge: computer engineering, psychology, geography, chemistry, physics, mathematics, etc. 2) Resources to promote the improvement of English proficiency in academic environments 3) Methodological support to implement instruction in English (EMI, CLIL, SIOP).
Project Aims & Objectives
1. To provide materials to promote the improvement of teachers’ English language proficiency, to enable them to meet the demands of their international students and to bring them closer to the possibility of being able to teach their subject in English.
2. To create a repository of materials in English containing different types of resources: texts, articles, images, videos, etc. related to the subjects of the teachers involved and also more transversal content.
3. To raise awareness of different methodologies for teaching content in a foreign language and to reflect on which is the most appropriate according to the context: CLIL, EMI, SIOP…
4. To develop one’s own materials in English following the most appropriate methodologies for the context.
5. To collaborate in the internationalisation and modernisation of the studies offered in the Education Faculties of Castile-La Mancha.
6. To promote coordination between the teachers of the different faculties involved, both those belonging to the Department of Modern Philology (English) and the other departments that teach non-linguistic areas, so that we can join forces and collaborate to achieve common objectives.
Teaching team
Teachers from different departments and faculties (Department of Psychology, Pedagogy, Mathematics, Geography, Information Technologies and Systems, Applied Mechanics, Applied Physics and Analytical Chemistry) collaborate in this project together with teachers from the Department of Modern Philology, with the aim of collaborating in the development of this online repository of materials in English, which serves as a resource bank, both for teachers and for international and UCLM students. Also included in the repository are materials on methodologies for teaching through a foreign language and promoting proficiency in academic contexts.
