Prof. Chris Binns is a Beatriz Galindo professor at UCLM and formerly professor of Nanoscience at the University of Leicester, UK. He obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Leicester and had Postdoctoral research contracts at Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, USA, and the National Synchrotron Light Source, Brookhaven, USA. In 1985 he became a full-time academic member of staff at the University of Leicester. He was co-ordinator on two framework 6 EU projects (NANOSPIN and NANOCASE). In 1995 he became professor of Nanoscience at Leicester and between 2008 and 2014 he specialised in the applications of magnetic nanoparticles to high performance magnetic materials and their use in medicine, particularly magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia treatment for cancer. He took up the post at UCLM in 2020 and has initiated a program to study the antiviral performance of Ag nanoparticles produced as an aerosol.
