Aims: The course is designed to introduce unexperienced students/staffs with propaedeutic skills in language industries (such as translation, interpreting, localization, internationalization and linguistic mediation) in the European Union context. The final aim of the module is to boost interest in the European Union and the professional opportunities offered within its framework for people interested in the language industries. In doing so, we will also be promoting at the campus multidisciplinary study related to European issues.
Contents: This is a practical module especially aimed at students in the different fields of study within the Humanities. This module focuses on the development of European identity and on the need to construct and refine communication between the constituent groups within the European Union. Each module (8 hours per module) will focus on one professional field and how it relates to mutual knowledge and understanding among Europeans, in the following order:
• Module 1 ‘Translation and interpretation in the EU framework’.
• Module 2 ‘Languages and Leisure Time Industries: Translation, para-translation and localization (cinema, videogames, etc).’
• Module 3 ‘Languages and intercultural communication/mediation’.
