of Los Torreznos
José A. Sánchez. 2015
Los Torreznos, in collaboration with Juan Domínguez, abandon their customary characters in order to invent new ones, whose boundaries are more blurry and much more disturbing. Despite the piece beginning with an affirmation of their own names, this work has nothing to do with identity – something Los Torreznos have questioned from a social and political perspective in a previous work – but with the condition of being human and the condition of art in the work of the human being. There is something Beckettian in these characters with proper names, a lot of absurd humour, as well as flesh and material enveloped in disquieting associations. The boundaries between subjectivity and materiality are blurred and in the edges appear the characters. Occasionally the audience believes it can recognise certain types; nevertheless, it remains mute when it attempts to determine what their names are.[…]
