Last October 5th, Mr. Nicolás Valiente Parra, defended, in the EID-UCLM Conference Hall, the Doctoral Tesis entitled “A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH FOR ASSESSING NATURAL ATTENUATION OF POLLUTANTS IN A HIGHLY SALINE LAKE-AQUIFER SYSTEM: THE CASE OF PÉTROLA LAKE, SPAIN“.
The Thesis obtained the maximum qualification: Excellent “cum laude”. The title of Doctor will include the “International Doctorate Mention”. The thesis was supervised by Juan José Gómez Alday (Faculty of Education-UCLM) and Franz Jirsa (Institute of Inorganic Chemistry-University of Vienna).
Recently, Dra. Gurbuz of the Department of Environmental Engineering (University of Aksaray, Turkey) visited our facilities with the purpose of collaborating in different aspects relating to the biodegradation of pollutants in aquatic systems.
Dra. Gurbuz is expertising in analyzing microcytins in water systems and has focused on removal mechanisms of the hazardous materials such as heavy metals, arsenics, cyanide…..including microcystins via biotreatments, biomembrane systems.
In January 2018, the MINISTERIO de ECONOMÍA, INDUSTRIA y COMPETITIVIDAD (MINECO) informed us about the provisional resolution of the R + D + i project , “Attenuation processes of conventional and emerging pollutants from agricultural and industrial sources in waters” (CALL 2017, RETOS Program; CHALLENGES of the SOCIETY), in which the UCLM participates as subproject under the coordination of the University of Barcelona. In the project also acts as coordinated groups the University of Girona and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
On May 22 and 23, 2018, the first PACE project meeting was held at the IDR. In this meeting, the following steps to be taken in the research were addressed, establishing the most important milestones to be reached in the project task-coordination.
