The Probability and Mathematical Statistics (PMS) research group of the University of Valladolid (Spain) will soon publish a call for a post-doctoral contract funded by the Regional Government of Castilla y León (Junta de Castilla y León) and FEDER funds.
The PMS group (http://www.imuva.uva.es/es/girs/13) is part of the Mathematics Research Institute of the University of Valladolid and has several mentions as a research group of excellence. Its main research lines include cluster analysis and data-driven trimming procedures, to mention a few.
The expected duration of the contract is 22 to 24 months and the gross salary is approximately 30000 euros per year. The contract includes support for training and promotion activities related to the project (conference attendance, courses, etc.). The tasks to be performed by the successful candidate are related to the group’s research lines and, in particular, to the research contracts that the group maintains. Specifically, he/she will focus on the development, adaptation and application of classification (supervised and unsupervised) methodologies for complex data (functional data, unstructured, etc.), often in big data environments.
Some of the group’s current contracts include clustering of air navigation trajectories and classification problems in car-crash damage evaluation. Candidates should have a good training in Mathematics and/or Statistics, although a degree in these areas is not compulsory.
Special attention will be given to candidates with previous research experience in work related to the research lines mentioned above, knowledge of R and tools of big data ecosystems, English proficiency, ability to work in groups and interest in applied statistics research. The selection process is expected to include a personal interview.
Those interested should send a statement of interest, along with a brief description of their scientific profile to Professor Pedro C. Alvarez (email@example.com)
