Evidence against Mr Al Mahdi seemed to be overwhelming.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_811\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-811\" class=\"wp-image-811 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/protectingheritage.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/04\/25413081915_9786c21782_z.jpg?w=625\" alt=\"25413081915_9786c21782_z\" width=\"625\" height=\"426\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-811\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ahmad Al Faqi Al Mahdi during the confirmation of charges hearing on 1 March 2016<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">After\u00a0the presentation of charges, Mr Al Mahdi explicitly expressed he wished to plead guilty. He made this statement before ICC Judges and in the presence of his lawyer.\u00a0That was the first time that an ICC suspect expressed his intention to plead guilty and therefore it is considered a milestone in the history of ICC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">In accordance with Regulation n. 53 of the Court, the Pre-Trial Court delivered its written decision on 24 March 2016. In this decision, the Pre-Trial Court confirmed the charge of war crime brought by the Prosecutor against Mr Al Mahdi.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/protectingheritage.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/04\/2016-03-24-icc-confirmation-of-charges.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See Decision of confirmation of charges on 24 March 2016<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The case is being referred to a Court\u00b4s Trial Chamber.
