MUAIA ALABDULMAJID

Syrian born (Damascus, 1985) and resident in France, he is a translator and PHD from the universities of Bologna and Mulhouse. He has translated into Arabic some of the greatest names in contemporary Italian narrative such as Dario Fo, Elena Ferrante, Italo Svevo or Antonio Tabucci, as well as children’s literature and the Spanish author Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

ISABELLA CAMERA D’AFFLITTO

Born in 1948, she is considered the most outstanding figure in the study of Arabic Literature in Italy. Professor of Literature at Sapienza University in Rome, se has a huge academic production on the Arab world. In the field of translation, she has made more than thirty translations into Italian of renowned authors such as Naguib Mahfuz, Ghassan Kannafani, Abdel Rahman Munif or Ibrahim al Koni, among others.

ACADEMIA LATINITATI FOVENDAE

Established in 1969, the Latinitati Fovendae Academy is dedicated to the recovery and promotion of Latin as a living language in Europe and the Mediterranean. Along with congresses and academic publications, translation is part of the Academy’s tools to spread Latin into the general public, and they have translated into Latin  children and young readers literature, as well as great works of contemporary literature.

ALI MENUFI

Egyptian Hispanist (1949-2018), he was professor of Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Al-Azhar (Cairo). Prolific philologist, he published numerous essays and research papers, and translated from Spanish into Arabic theoretical studies on literature, Spanish-Muslim art, Andalusian architecture and Spanish history, as well as Spanish-American literature, including the famous novel by Cortázar, Rayuela .

HASSAN BOUTAKKA

Moroccan (Casablanca, 1970), he is university teacher, translator and interpreter. He teaches linguistics and translation in the Department of Spanish Language and Literature in the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences of Casablanca (Hassan II University). He has translated into Arabic works by Jorge Luis Borges, Mario Benedetti, Juan Rulfo or Augusto Monterroso, among others.

ENRIQUE MONTERO CARTELLE

Born in 1945, professor of Latin Philology in the University of Valladolid, editor and translator of Latin texts and specialist in medieval medical writings from Arab sources, particularly those by Constantine the African. He has translated into Spanish twenty works of Latin texts from the Classical era, the Middle Ages and the Reinassance.

ESCUELA SUPERIOR DE TRADUCCIÓN REY FAHD DE TÁNGER

Higher education institution founded in 1983 and associated to the Abdelmalek Saadi University (Tetouan). It is the first Moroccan institution dedicated to the training of translators. Since 1992, the school publishes the journal Turjuman and organizes congress about translation in general and history of Morocco and Tangier in particular.

KADHIM JIHAD HASSAN

Iraqi (Nasiriya, southern Irak, 1955) living in France since the late 1970’s, Kadhim Jihad Hassan is a poet, professor, literary critic and translator who has spent more than 30 years rendering into Arabic the masterworks of European literature, from Dante to  Rimbaud, from Rilke to Juan Goytisolo, José Ángel Valente, Jacques Derrida, etc. He wrote also critical essays on Arabic translations of works of Homer, Shakespeare, Hölderlin, Lorca and Perse.

FRANCESCA MARIA CORRAO

Scholar and translator, Francesca Maria Corrao teaches Arabic Language and Culture at LUISS University in Rome. She has translated into Italian more than a dozen anthologies of classical and contemporary Arabic poetry including poets such as Adonis, Mahmud Darwish or Mohammed Bennis. She has also worked on several editions of medieval texts.
