We would like to invite you to submit a paper to the workshop: POPULATION GROWTH, INEQUALITY AND GENDER INEQUALITY OVER THE LONG RUN. The workshop will run for 1 day and will take place on June 10, 2026, in Barcelona.

Population growth is an important issue in economic analysis: it not only directly affects the size of the aggregate demand but it also matters for economic growth analysis. On the other hand, population growth has outcomes for the study of inequality. It results in a larger size of labor supply and higher consumption prices. Inequality may also be framed in institutional terms and we also propose to decompose inequality in two main components: institutional and caused by labor market forces.

In this workshop we want to analyze this set of topics as well as the engines of population growth over the long run: fertility, migrations and life expectancies. A crucial topic in the analysis of fertility is gender equality and the improvement of women’s economic position. On the other hand, a related outcome of low fertility (below replacement) is population ageing, the need for immigration and the current sustainability of the pensions System. We want to focus on all these topics from a long run perspective from the Malthusian period till the present.

The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2026. To submit a paper, please use this link https://app-summerforum.bse.eu/. Submissions should include either a full paper or an extended abstract with the main results. Authors chosen to present papers will be notified approximately by the end of March. A preliminary program will be announced by the end of April. Final programs will be on the web by the end of May
