Authentication of documents

Legalization is an administrative act whereby a foreign public document is validated, by verifying the authenticity of the signature on the document, and the capacity in which the signatory of the document has acted.

Official translation of documents

Documents issued abroad Spain must be accompanied by an official translation into Spanish. The official translation may be made:

  • By a certified translator, duly authorized or registered in Spain.
  • By any diplomatic or consular representation of Spain abroad.
  • By the diplomatic or consular representation in Spain of the country of which the applicant is a citizen or, if applicable, of the country of origin of the document.
  • By an official translator abroad and duly legalized signature of such official translator.
