This volume presents the Virtual Archive of Performing Arts (AVAE), at the same time it constitutes a theoretical-critical study on this international project led and managed by the School of Fine Arts of Cuenca, since its creation, in 2003. The AVAE is focused in the avant-garde scene that includes among its field of work not only the contemporary theater and dance, but also actions, installations, videos or performances, together with the pertinent theoretical material. It has a team of researchers present in different Spanish and Latin American universities. The aim of the Archive is to provide students, teachers and professionals with critical and documentary material about Ibero-American contemporary stage creators, as well as about their contexts of production, exhibition and criticism. It is, finally, a documentary proposal linked to a defined historiographical purpose. The concept of «performing arts» that is handled is broad, in that it covers everything that happens in real time and in the presence of spectators including, therefore, hybrid proposals, actions, installations, video-actions, etc.
